Olah, mi missionario compadres!
That, my young friends, is my not even pretended Spanish greeting...just messin' with y'all!
Hello, and welcome Elder Wilson and Elder Meyer to some of the ongoing random messages from Sister Mary Biesinger (aka Mom to three of your compadres). I mix a healthy portion of family anecdotes with random thoughts and musings, so feel free to peruse or disregard at will. But, please all of you know that you have a home crowd in Athens who cheers for you and prays for you!
Onto this week's email...
The Biesingers are enjoying Hyrum during his first online week as a Danish missionary, headed to Provo on March 13 (thereabouts). Piper just got her driver's license days before he started, so we--as parents--are thrilled to have an extra driver still. Havala, Piper, Maia, Xai and Eli are all involved in our current acting gig, Robin Hood, a humorous adaptation from Howard Pyle's original novel. We've spiced it up with some Renaissance dances and epic fighting scenes and moves...one of which required my 47 year old mom body to roll around the floor to demonstrate, which was truly laughable, but conveyed what it needed to. (I watch a lot of action movies.)
They are also singing in our choir, learning sign-language and dancing to go with that, rounding out our usual performances with pizzazz. I tirelessly (and shamelessly) canvas and steal dance moves from YouTube videos and Disney's Broadway version of "Newsies," making an overall memorable presentation and stretching my skills.
Outside of that, we are still recovering from the trauma of our mother cow die of some strange, unknown disease and trying to keep all of our other largely unwanted animal population alive. (We've tried to find homes for our hound dog and bunnies to no avail.) Ironically, we work tirelessly to keep our chickens and guineas alive but keep losing them. Ahhh, the joys of inept country farm living...
We have recently enjoyed:
-a visit from our Shetka cousins who have been traveling around the country
-an 8 week dance class taught by Hyrum to the community with participation from senior couples, homeschoolers and church family alike, culminating in a rip-roaring dance fest including line dances and food. So fun!
-taking our five wiggle cars to various skate parks and zooming with abandon up and down slopes
-playing pick-up games of volleyball/basketball on Fridays and football on Saturdays with a mix-up of members, football friends, Christian homeschool compadres family...you know us Biesingers! We love our sports. (But we're not having any fun, Lily.)
-days that soar from the 70's one day and plunge down below freezing, all the while feeling some snow envy looking at the rest of the country
-(speaking of good weather) a trip to Strouds Run Reservoir on March 1st, a month which definitely came in like a lamb! The kids were thrilled to be in the water already. (I'm still holding out for a crazy March two-week blast of snowstorms like last year or the year before!)
-yummy food and stomach flu in good measure (unfortunately not enjoyed at the same time)
-two baptisms of new friends in the ward with more on the horizon! We love our missionaries and our friends!
Well, that is definitely a long enough update about us! Below are random thoughts/conversations that lean to the spiritual that I thought I would share if you have time or interest.
God bless you all.
Beauty from ashes,
Mom/Sister Mary
