Great Time at the Play

I wanted to share a cool miracle that happened today: The weather forecast up until this morning said it was going to feel like 99 degrees today...at 6 pm in the middle of our performances. I prayed that if it was God's will, if He could make a small miracle of coolness happen, it would be wonderful. "Even just a breeze would be lovely, Father!" I pleaded. I have a lifetime full of unanswered prayers, but also know that Nephi in the book of Helaman was able to pray for weather to change if it was God's will. "I can ask," I thought. As of 2:30 pm today, the weather said high chance of severe thunderstorms and then it was supposed to kick back up to 96, again by 6 pm. While I normally don't hold much stock in weather predicting, it was going to take something pretty significant (and miraculous) to change what had been so consistently foretold to be hot. I sent a message out to our little group to pray for better weather for our actors and the rain started to pour! You know, in Utah, whenever it would rain on one of our birthdays or special days or days when we needed something, my friend and I would say, "I must be His favorite!" Well, today I really felt His love. Not only did the rain stop at 4:30 pm (in time for us to keep our curtain call with relative accuracy) but the temperature was perfect...very different from what it was even at 2 pm today. Anyway, it was truly a miracle today and I really felt God's love and support for me. I know that many times (in fact most of the time lately) God is letting me figure things out and feel them out. It was just such a tender mercy to have this miracle for our little camp.

The kids had such great energy. They connected well. They excelled after just one week. I was grateful to be a part of the unveiling process–discovering and rejoicing in their abilities.

I am so proud of my young friends who pulled off an entire production in just one week!! Two casts of about 16 kids each performed Tova Dzado's western adaptation of "The Comedy of Errors."

It has been a week of fun, work and miracles, culminating in a miraculous break in the weather to give us the perfect setting for an outdoor production last night.

Special thank yous to:

-Beth Flick with https://bflickphotography.com/ for the great photos!

-Elder Dallin Lanier and Elder Archibald for constructing the sets in the hot, humid Ohio summer :), (finally got your name right, brother!)

-Tova Dzado for the script, the line dances and the penguins (yes, penguins ;)....LOTS of penguins),

-Parents and youth in the Lightside Acting Troupe for their talents, generosity, and willingness to put up with my crazy schemes ;),

-Hillery Harris Gaiser and her husband Matt for coordinating the feeding of the brave souls who ventured out despite the looming weather,

-Ali and Xander Pratt for some incredible t-shirts,

-Micah Cozzens for her willingness and ability to do an inspired last-minute mindfulness class to a room full of 30+ kids that set the tone for the rest of the week,

-My parents, Shauna and Joseph Buchanan for hosting us on their lovely property,

-My darling husband Quinn for his love and support, along with my own kiddos: built-in cast & backstage crew extraordinaires (and yes, I just made up that word),

-and finally God: for the weather, the people and the other blessings of grace showered upon me this week and throughout my life.

Feeling blessed!
