FHE memories, "The Corndog Song" and spring prep

Tonight we played a game called "Rock, Paper, Scissors Path Battle" where there are a bunch of taped marks on the floor in a long and winding path.  Teams are at each end of the path and when we say, "Go!" the first in each team starts hopping from mark to mark--not missing one.  When the two opponents meet on the path, they do BATTLE!  Rock, paper, scissors style

We had divided into teams and Dad didn't win a single battle...the entire long game (10 minutes or so?).  Feeling defeated, while we were eating the marvelous caramel popcorn Hava made for treat, Quinn went around and tried to win a match, any match.  After losing a solid seven to Havala he finally beat her!

"I'm done! I won one!"  He knows when to stop. ;)

Piper led the music from the couch.

Dad did an epic spotlight in which we learned that Havala would rather eat a turtle and kill a frog.  She'd rather step on a tack than lick a sharp night and has a crush on Ryan Reynolds.  Oh wait.  Her favorite actor.  Apparently he took a few liberties, imagine that ;).

We are super stoked to be eating caramel popcorn the night before dental appointments!

Penelope has been enjoying the caramel popcorn all night, kept throwing things at Eli during FHE and read a book after hopping around and winning one rock, paper, scissors battle.  She's adorable.

I did Maia's hair in two braids, Eli learned how to make a ponytail with my hair and Liesl dazzled us with her rubber band guitar song called "Love Mommy" and her piano solo, "Rain, rain, go away."

******

Earlier tonight, Elijah and Xai performed a song that Eli made up the music to--on his rubber band guitar and on the piano--and that Xai came up with the words for: "The Corndog Song."  It's on video for posterity ;).

We dug and moved sod for hours and hours...and still have more leveling to do.  Huzzah! But we'll get a pool up hopefully soon!

Our garden is in.  We came up with a fun idea for the fall production.  We are rocking our dental visits.  Piper apparently neglected to pay the price for listening to two performances of "The Corndog Song" so Xai and Elijah dutifully chased her down until they got the hugs and kisses that they required.  Piper got wounded in the chase, but the boys felt it was a worthy price to pay. (One performance was on the guitar and one on the piano.)

May 21, 2023 Journal

Eli just came in, distraught that the cats were messing with a chipmunk before killing it.  He recognizes the blessing it is to have the cats dispatch chipmunks (they're a serious pest around here), but he was heart-broken for them torturing them before they die.  Sad but sweet!

Maia did a worm from a handstand, lowering herself from a handstand and going right into it. So amazing!

Penelope spent much of the afternoon wandering around, following cats in barefeet.  I looked out the window at one point to see her trailing after it in the woods.  So funny!

Yesterday Elijah was running with the football and (in his words) "Daddy zoomed across, but then missed!  And then he zoomed across again and then Piper blocked me.  And then he ran around AGAIN to get me and then he smacked me and I fell out of the cones!  It was a terrible day for Eli!" He was so excited that he "finally had something we could put in the journal!"  Cute kid.

We had fun with all our acting friends coming over last night for a social.  We watched the recent play of "Robin Hood" and it was so great!  They did so well. I think I enjoyed it more than most because I could see how much they had progressed and how much work they put into it.  And the party was fun.  It is such a great group of people.

We enjoyed chatting with Lily today.  She is such a light!  This poem reminded me of her:
